PERSONAL INJURY

We specializes in representing individuals seeking compensation for harm (physical, emotional, financial) caused by someone else's negligence, covering cases like car crashes, medical malpractice, slip & falls, and animal attacks, often working on a "no win, no fee" basis (contingency fees) to help clients navigate complex legal processes for damages like medical bills, pain, and lost earnings.

LEGAL ADVICE

We involve ourselves in  structuring, compliance, contracts, IP, and client services, often handled by corporate lawyers specializing in M&A, entity governance, and commercial law, with options ranging from large firms (PwC Legal, Deloitte Legal) to specialized boutiques (Barnard Inc.) and essential support like FNB's Law on Call or Legal Aid for those who can't afford it, all to navigate complex legal landscapes and regulations.

ESTATE PLANNING

Our  business involves a specialized area of law focused on ensuring the seamless transition of a business's ownership and management in the event of an owner's death or incapacity, while also integrating with their personal estate plan. This process is crucial for preserving the business's value, minimizing tax implications, and providing for the owner's family and employees.

fundamental law
A fundamental law is the supreme, foundational legal text (like a Constitution) that establishes a government's structure, powers, and limits, defines basic rights, and serves as the ultimate source of authority from which all other laws derive, ensuring all governmental actions and other laws comply with its core principles. It acts as the "law of laws," outlining the framework for justice and governance, and ensuring government accountability, as seen in South Africa where it's explicitly supreme over all other laws.

human law
Human law (or positive law) refers to written rules and regulations created by governments to govern behavior in specific societies, differing from inherent moral principles (natural law) and encompassing national statutes as well as international human rights laws set by bodies like the UN to protect fundamental freedoms for all people. It's society's structured system for maintaining order, resolving disputes, and ensuring safety, established through legislative bodies, unlike natural law which stems from inherent morality.

main law
generally refers to the supreme law of a country, which is the Constitution, forming the foundation for all other laws and government actions, like South Africa's, where the 1996 Constitution is the highest law, followed by legislation, common law (Roman-Dutch/English influence), customary law, and court precedents, all designed to regulate behavior, ensure justice, and resolve disputes.

Common Law
Common law is a legal system where rules are developed by judges through decisions in court cases (precedent) rather than solely by legislative statutes, forming a body of uncodified law based on tradition and past rulings, differing from codified civil law systems. In South Africa, it's a blend of Roman-Dutch law and English law, serving as the foundation where statutes don't cover an issue, but it doesn't automatically recognize "common law marriage" like some other systems.

Tax Law
In South Africa, the tax law applicable to a business depends heavily on its legal structure (e.g., sole proprietor, partnership, or company). Key tax types administered by the South African Revenue Service (SARS) include Income Tax, Value-Added Tax (VAT), and Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE).

Banking Law
Banking law for business governs financial institutions' operations, covering regulations like South Africa's Banks ActFSR Act, and FIC Act, dictating everything from deposit-taking and lending to anti-money laundering (AML) and customer protection, blending financial oversight with core business law principles like contracts and corporate governance to ensure stability, compliance, and ethical conduct in the complex financial sector.
